Portraits of Photographer Levi van Veluw
Young Dutch photographer Levi van Veluw takes pictures of himself covered with tape (pictured) or ballpoint pen patterns, rendering the familiar photographic self-portrait wondrously strange and offering, like his fellow A.K.A. artists, an approach to modern portaiture that feels endlessly mediated and decidedly unstable.
Levi van Veluw certainly knows how to make a provocative portrait. A modern innovator, the Dutch photographer inverts the form, covering his subjects in doodles and masking them in electrical tape. In this way, features and expressions become secondary to the artist's playful interpretation of features.
